The finale will see Gently giving evidence at London's Old Bailey against corrupt police officers before he is pulled in to one last case by the new head of Special Investigations Squad. The story follows an old-school detective trying to come to stay on the straight and narrow as the police around them become more corrupt. The first episode of the new series, titled Gently Liberated, is teased as Gently and Bacchus becoming involved in an investigation that may be a miscarriage of justice.
The show has been nominated for two Irish Film and Television Awards throughout its run, and has a 7.
