He says he began drinking and using drugs in the s and lost interest in his radio career, before ending up on the streets and becoming estranged from his family and children. He is now reported to have been offered full-time announcing work and living expenses by basketball team the Cleveland Cavaliers.

With a rap sheet that extends for pages — Williams' first time in prison was when he was 21, after he was caught stealing from his father — he often turns to religion to keep him strong. Reminders of his past are everywhere. Occasionally, he said, he will saunter through aisles of stores where he used to pocket items. Even in the worst of times, Williams held onto his dream of doing voiceover work again.

When he was in jail, he said, he would entertain fellow inmates by doing fake radio commercials. Williams, who was adopted and raised in Brooklyn, New York, has nine children and stepchildren, and 16 grandchildren.

Despite prior rocky relationships with family, he has reconnected with many of his relatives since getting sober. A field trip as a child to a meet a radio deejay inspired him to make a career out of his own voice.

His inspiration to be a radio announcer came on a field trip to a radio station, where he said that the man he heard on the radio did not match who he saw in person. He spent time in the U.

Armed Forces and attended the Central Ohio School of Broadcasting to fine tune his voice, then worked at various radio stations in Columbus and North Carolina. In , he began to experiment with drugs and alcohol, and eventually became homeless.

He has since been sober for two years, but has moved between staying with family members and living on the streets. The Columbus Dispatch did a story on Williams, and posted the video on their website on January 3.

Videographer Doral Chenoweth was on the assignment, and noted that he had never heard of the guy originally. After the video was posted to the Dispatch's site, it was posted on Youtube later that same day. This video has now been the catalyst of creating a worldwide sensation. What came of this video was nothing short of astonishing.

After this video was posted, job offers came pouring in and people rallied to find jobs for him. Perhaps the biggest story was that the Cleveland Cavaliers not only offered him a full-time job for voice-over work, but offered him a house as well.
