She ran to tell Peter and John that Jesus was no longer in His grave. The two men hurried to see this and verified that Jesus' body was gone John John [2] Then she runs, and comes to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken away the LORD out of the sepulcher, and we know not where they have laid him.
As she wept, Jesus appeared to her but would not allow her to hold on to Him because He had "not yet ascended" to the Father John John Jesus said to her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brothers, and say to them, I ascend to my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Later that same day Jesus appeared again. This time He allowed certain women to hold on to Him Matthew Matthew And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail.
And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. His own words show that, between the time Mary Magdalene saw Him and the time He allowed the women to hold on to Him, He had ascended to, and been accepted by, the Father. The wave-sheaf ceremony God gave to ancient Israel thus represents Jesus Christ's acceptance by His Father as "the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep" 1 Corinthians 1 Corinthians But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept.
Romans Romans For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. God's Spirit within us identifies us and sanctifies us—sets us apart as Christians. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. He alluded to several first-century Christians as the firstfruits of God's calling Romans Romans Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my well-beloved Epaenetus, who is the first fruits of Achaia to Christ.
The significance of the Bible writers calling these people of God firstfruits becomes evident when we consider John John Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me. Here Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me. How many, throughout the centuries, have really accepted and practiced the way of life Jesus taught? Even today many people have simply never heard much, if anything, about Jesus Christ. How will God offer them salvation? Few people understand that God follows a systematic plan, symbolized by His Holy Days, to save all of humanity by offering all people eternal life in His Kingdom.
During Advent we shared an excerpt of Unlocking The Secrets Of The Feasts and had such an amazing response, so today we offer this second excerpt. At the first Feast of Weeks, God provided the law.
God had given the children of Israel freedom from bondage and slavery, so He then gave them the law to guide them in living.
As slaves they were told what to do by their masters, but in freedom they needed guidance from their new Master, the Lord God of Heaven. It should be noted that God gave them freedom, salvation from slavery, before He gave them the law. This feast is observed during the time of the wheat harvest, a major provision of the Lord.
In Leviticus God told the Jews:. You shall also count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day when you brought in the sheaf of the wave offering; there shall be seven complete Sabbaths.
You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall present a new grain offering to the Lord. A new grain offering was to be offered in the Feast of Weeks:. You shall bring in from your dwelling places two loaves of bread for a wave offering, made of two-tenths of an ephah; they shall be of a fine flour, baked with leaven as firstfruits to the Lord. Leaven is now introduced to the bread in place of the unleavened bread of the former feasts.
But why? Checking with the messianic rabbis, I discovered a logical answer to this question. We still have sin in our lives until we receive our new glorified bodies at the Rapture. We read in 1 Corinthians Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread. Excerpted from a study article in the Orthodox Study Bible. Orthodox Christianity is the face of ancient Christianity to the modern world. Also, it embraces the second largest body of Christians in the world.
In this first-of-its-kind study Bible, the Bible is presented with commentary from the ancient Christian perspective. So, it speaks to those Christians who seek a deeper experience of the roots of their faith.

When the Holy Sporit dwells in me i will be endowed with the wisdom to descern the word and live according to it. Come Holy Spirit take control of me.
I promise to submit to all that you desire of me and to accept all that you wish to happen to me. Your zeal for the Lord is encouraging! May I remind you that upon a profession of faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the Father and Son come to dwell with you. What your heart is crying out for is the release of your indeelling Holy Spirit which is the experience of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. There are hundreds of millions living today who have been baptized in the Holy Spirit.
My prayer is that you will have that blessed experience! Larry, your comment is consistent with modern Christian dogma, but not with Book of Acts apostolic doctrine. Study carefully the infilling of the Holy Spirit as described in Acts 2, 8, , and The reference to what Peter quoted from Joel is incorrect. It is Joel Great article though. I love this!! Thank you for everything you all do. God Bless!! In the Complete Jewish Bible you will find that the reference is as stated, from the original text.
It is only in the English translations, where the partitioning is different that the references have been changed.
I love the article which highlights how these feast days given by God to the Israelites are shadows of the New Testament Pentecost in Acts 2! Just one question…. Then you shall present a grain offering of new grain to the Lord. It is a chronological tag which addresses itself to the time lapse between Passover and Shavuot.
The Feast of Weeks Pentecost starts about 7 weeks after Passover. It was and is a one day celebration in Israel and now two days outside of Israel. Your comment about the Israelite festival being a shadow picture of what is to come was not just Pentacost! It is all of the appointed times that you can read about in Lev. But did you know that it is a holiday from the Hebrew Scriptures that Jewish people still celebrate?
Shavuot was originally a harvest festival, the second of two firstfruits occasions. In Leviticus 23 , following the description of Passover, we read this:. On the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it.
This was the first firstfruits offering, the harvest of barley, which included sacrifices. Next, we read about the second firstfruits occasion, the holiday of Shavuot:. You shall count seven full weeks from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering. You shall count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath. Then you shall present a grain offering of new grain to the LORD.
Leviticus This time, it is the wheat harvest. Because it occurs seven weeks after the first offering 50 days, the day after the completion of the seven weeks , the holiday was known as Shavuot, or Weeks.
Once Israel was settled in the land and there was a permanent sanctuary, an entire ritual developed around the bringing of firstfruits. We were instructed to take some of the first of our harvest, place it in baskets, take it to the Tabernacle later the Temple and turn it over to the priest as an act of worship and gratitude to God for the land He gave us Deuteronomy This holiday was more than just the bringing of the first of the crops to present before God—it was a time to remember how Israel arrived in the land, which was something not to be taken for granted.
Just as an individual might tell their story of their journey of faith, so the Jewish people recounted the journey of faith of the entire nation. This meant never forgetting where they had come from in the past in order to continue to be thankful in the present. It meant remembering that the land was a gift from the Lord. And it was also an opportunity to rejoice, to enjoy the fruit of the land and, yes, even to party with family and visitors!
The ritual of Deuteronomy 26 made reference to that history, but most of that ritual was contained already in the holiday of Passover. And so over time, Shavuot took on a new character.
